Hi,

I would need to create a file in a specific location on DSP memory at runtime in a SYS/BIOS application. I did some research and I found that it is possible to do it with the Fatfs utilities. The utilities seems to fit my purpose as they will create a virtual FS in which I can handle files from SYS/BIOS. Unluckly, I am afraid that the documentation I read is old because I was trying to find the Fatfs utilities in the folders indicated and I could not find them.

Is there a way to find a solution to my issue or to find these utilities I mentioned?

I am using:

CCS 8.2.0.00007

PDK 2.0.11

BIOS 6.73.00.12

Hi Fabrizio,

Fatfs is not supported on TMS320C6678, as far as I know. The devices that support fatfs are: OMAP-L13x, 66AK2Gx, and the ones listed in Processor SDK RTOS User guide:

If Fatfs is not supported, How can I create a file in a specific memory address in C6678? If I use fopen(), where is my file allocated?

Hi Fabrizio,

Let me check a little further about how fatfs is supported. There might be some apis that should work for you, but I am not expert on this.

You specify where .data, .code & .text sections are located in the linker.cmd file & the .cfg file in your project. You can see how this is done at any Processor SDK RTOS example.

Hi,

Under the FATFS, there may be some physical storage like MMCSD, EMMC, USB stick or virtual memory (RAM disk). For the TI RTOS driver, the Fatfs is only available for K2G and Sitara AM3/4/5/6 device as mentioned by Yordan.

There is a SYSBIOS work done in 2012 processors.wiki.ti.com/.../BIOS and it is not maintained, I am not sure if this is still working or not.

Another way, you can write the data into a buffer into DSP and use section to define where this buffer is. Of course, you know the address of the buffer and you can R/W with it, without a file system support.

Thank you for your response.

I know how to write data into a specific area of DSP with sections, but what I need is to handle that area as a file. This means that I would need to use fopen() and other file based functions. Using fopen() means that it will return a pointer to the file and I would like to have that pointer to point where I like.

Would it be possible to do it with the buffer as you mentioned?

I will have a look at the link you sent and let you know asap if that works for me.

My necessity is to handle a file. Will the buffer allow me to create the file at the address defined with the sections?

Also, after the file is created, I will need to send it out on the Ethernet (NDK) interface using this function:

Hi,

With a buffer, you can't create a file. Also you can't send it out with NDK. Implementing RAMDisk on C6678 is a new feature request, we don't have any plan for this. Sorry!
