Linux/AM3359: Fiber mode support

Part Number: AM3359

Tool/software: Linux

If I use fiber mode on AR8031, is there anything I have to do based on  ti-processor-sdk-linux-am335x-evm-05.02.00.10?

Thank you!

  • Hi,

PHYs that connect using fiber should be usable as long as the PHY supports the MAC interface modes listed in the TI datasheet for the AM3359, these are MII, RMII and RGMII.

Please pay attention to how the PHY detects the link and auto negotiates the link speed. There are some link speeds that FX based PHYS will not auto-negotiate and will assume the link is always up. Depending on how the PHY reports the speed through the driver there may have to be some device tree settings that are similar to a fixed PHY which requires a definition that sets the speed and link duplex mode. These device tree settings would be provided by the PHY manufacturer based on their driver support.

Also take note of the driver that is supplied by the PHY manufacturer and verify that one in the Linux source tree matches the PHY selected and is supported by the PHY manufacturer since issues with the PHY will have to be supported by the manufacturer.

    Best Regards,
    Schuyler
