AM5726: PCIe termination resistor

Part Number: AM5726

Hi,

Is it necessary to place a termination resistor close to the PCIE_RXP0 and PCIE_RXN0 pins?
No termination resistor seems to be placed on the AM572x EVM or AM572x IDK evaluation board.

  • Hello Tsuda-san,
No external termination resistors are needed on the TX/RX pairs.

For PCIe, both the TX and RX pairs do need ac-coupling capacitors. For add-in card applications, the Host provides these on the TX pair and the add-in card is expected to do the same for it's TX pair. For backplane applications where no add-in card is utilized, the board designer must place both sets of coupling capacitors.

I hope this clears it up for you.
  • Hi DK,

    Thank you for quick reply.
I understand that no external termination resistors are needed on the TX/RX pairs and both the TX and RX pairs are needed ac-coupling capacitors.
