AM3359: Profinet problem

Part Number: AM3359
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK110

Hi,

Problem description:

When the device is switched on/off, in rare cases no profinet connection to a Siemens PLC is established.

To reproduce this behavior we use 3 devices which are all connected to a switch. A Siemens PLC is also connected to the switch. All 3 devices have the power supply switched off/on and it is checked if all 3 devices establish a profinet connection to the Siemens PLC. See picture below.

The failure can be reproduced. In the documentation below, the failure happened at DUT “franz”.

There is the capture file “ConnectionFailureFranz.pcapng”. There is a PC connected to the Switch “Netgear”. The switch is configured with Port mirroring. This way the whole traffic from the 3 DUT and the Siemens PLC can be captured on the PC.

In the capture file we can see that DUT “franz” has successful Ethernet communication until Frame 25, which is a profinet connection request of the Siemens PLC. After this we cannot see any Ethernet frame from DUT “franz” any more.

When the Ethernet cable of DUT “franz” is pulled out of Port 2 and is plugged into Port 1 of DUT “franz” the Profinet connection is established. When the Ethernet cable is put back into Port 2 no Profinet connection is established.

We then put a TAP between the Switch and Port 2 of DUT “franz”. This way we can see that DUT “franz” sends corrupted Ethernet frames. See capture file “EthernetFailure.pcap”.

We put the Ethernet cable back to Port 1 of DUT “franz”. The profinet connection is established again. We then read the Phy registers of the Phy on Port1 and the Phy on Port2. They are all OK. We then resetted the Phy on Port 2 by a software function. Then we put the Ethernet cable back to Port 2 of DUT “franz” there is still no profinet connection.

We use the following software:

  • TI processor SDK RTOS AM335X 04.02.00.09
  • PRU ICSS Profinet Slave 1.00.03.04

Do you have any idea what could be causing the problem?

Tank you

Best regards
