OMAP-L138: Need Code Base Example

We're working on a project to implement IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) within an existing products that uses the OMAPL138EZWTA3 processor.

Do you know if there happens to be an existing code base for this processor or a similar product that TI has developed that could help us quickly put together a demonstration? For example, something similar to this YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yt4jHIk3bw).

TI IEEE 1588 PTP solution exist only on the devices that include the Industrial communication subsystem (ICSS). the details of the solution and the list of devices are provided here:

The solution is deployed via Processor SDK Linux using ICSS PRU firmware. If you are looking for a single core ARM +DSP device then you can look athe AM571x or the K2G offering. If you are looking or a device in the same power and cost profile as OMAPL138 then AM335x is a good option

Thank you. This is for an existing product so I do not believe it will be feasible to change the processor & re-qualify the system.

To confirm, is there any way to implement IEEE 1588 PTP on the OMAP-L138 or is this just not possible?

We are discussing this internally with PTP experts and have reached out to the PHY team to see if this can be implemented with existing design.

I will post a response after we align and also loop you in if we need some inputs based on the customer use case. Our initial understanding is that in absence of CPTS and timer in ICSS, this can be done in software but not to attain slave synchronization resolution of nanoseconds. Do you have any usecase details from the customer in terms of what time stamp resolution is required ?

They'd like resolutions on the order of microseconds. They're open to hardware time stamping using an external PHYTER, but they'd like to do this in software first to the best of our ability.

Here is the response from our PHY team:

There are a couple of reference designs where DP83640 is used for hardware timestamping for PTP. We also have design guide and reference library.

I check the designs out they seem to be using an FPGA+ TI PHY based design. I would recommend referring customer to the above link as a starting point to see if that can use the PHY as a companion part to implement this in software with OMAPL138/AM1808 in existing design.
