TCI6638K2K: TCI6638K2K

Part Number: TCI6638K2K

Hello,

We are using TCI6638K2K in one of the enodeB design.

It is required to use CPTS output as reference input to clock generator to generate 1PPS output signal.

The clock generator used is "disciplined Oscillator from Vectron". When a PPS -in is applied to The clock generator once locked with input generates high on the Lock signal and also PPS out.

The issue we are observing is, The clock generator is not locking with CPTS input, so it is not generating 1PPS output.

We have checked with Grandmaster PPS out fed to the clock generator. It is OK, the lock signal is going high, and also the 1PPS is generated the output of clock module.

The CPTS register values are given below,

Please find the register dump of cpts

[  231.577197] idver = 4e8a0105
[  231.580170] control = 5
[  231.582706] refclk = 0
[  231.585154] ts_push = 0
[  231.587694] ts_load_val = 0
[  231.587695] ts_load_en = 0
[  231.587697] ts_comp_val = a4b7b2fc
[  231.587698] ts_comp_length = 2ee0
[  231.587700] intstat_raw = 0
[  231.587701] intstat_masked = 0
[  231.587702] int_enable = 1
[  231.587703] event_pop = 0
[  231.587705] event_low = 85768b74
[  231.587706] event_high = 0
[  231.587707] event_high2 = 0

Pls let us know if we are missing something.

We have to solve this issue ASAP.

Kindly advice whether it is possible to use CPTS output as input to Clock module to generate 1PPS output signal.

Regards,

Sumathi

  • Hi Sumathi,

Do you use Linux or RTOS or else?

    Regards,
    Pavel

  • Hello Pavel,

    Thanks for the support.

    We use Linux.

We are using MD-171 vectron clock module.

This module locks with 1pps from GPS and Grandmaster.

The requirement is the MD-171 must generate 1pps signal at the output once it is locked with 1pps input at reference input.

We are able to observe the 1pps output with GPS/ grandmaster. But with cpts pps from Keystone II (K2K), we are not able to observe the lock, and also we are not able to see any PPS output.

How do we test and compare CPTS PPS (k2k) and GPS PPS (grandmaster).

We have used level translator to match the grandmaster pps signal level. We adjusted the pulse high time also using ts_comp_length in mcsdk.

Kindly advice, how do we replicate the 1pps CPTS (K2K) similar to 1pps (grandmaster)

    Regards,

    Sumathi

  • Hi, Sumathi,

Please see the link on TCI6638K2K support: https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors/f/791/t/809582

For CPTS, please see the CPSW user's guide in

    http://software-dl.ti.com/processor-sdk-linux/esd/docs/latest/linux/Foundational_Components_Kernel_Drivers.html#cpsw

I suggest you try the CPTS on a TI EVM and see how it works and compare yours with it.

    Rex

  • Hello Rex,

    Thanks for the support.

We tried to test CPTS on EVM, We have observed the same output as the board we built.

From the below image, Channel 1 is CPTS output from our board. Channel 2 is the output of grandmaster.

The core frequency is 1.2GHz, we have made the changes for M, S, D values as per MCSDK for 600,000000. But we have observed that there is drift in the PPS output. ALso the Time period of the pulses is not exactly 1Second. It is 28ms less than 1 Second.

Kindly let me know if he CPTS Pulse is been observed in any of the SDK at TI Lab.. kindly advice what we have to look into in the code. This is very critical requirement. The CPTS has to get locked in Clock module, only then we can observe PPS output from clock module.

Kindly advice whether we are missing something

below is the reply Application.logmessage from the Vectron Disciplined Oscillator.

"If the PPS input to the MD-171 is stable enough and has a pulse width of >5uS there should not be any issues syncing to the PPS input from the 1588 source.

If the MD-171 does not sync to the PPS input from the 1588 source it is because it is not stable and is being disqualified by the input qualification process on the module"

    Sumathi

  • Hello,

Please could you reply for my query.

    Regards,

    Sumathi

  • Hi, Sumathi,

I checked our test logs from 2 years ago. The test case allows a tolerance value of 0.5. The test logs shows drifts observed and they are all within tolerance range. Please see the logs below. As I pointed out earlier that K2K is one of the NRND device and I won't be able to provide further help.
