TMDX654IDKEVM: I2C LED controler

Part Number: TMDX654IDKEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPIC2810, PCA9555

Hello,

I'm trying to write a simple C application that controls this TPIC2810D (LED controller) in Linux.

Can you tell me what drivers do I need? Do I need to add additional modules in the Linux Makefile and compile again? And if yes, where do I modify the makefile?

Best regards!

  • Hi Silviu,

    You need the below driver:

    linux-4.19.38/drivers/gpio/gpio-tpic2810.c

    This driver is build as module from the am65x defconfig file, thus you need to include it in the kernel:

    linux-4.19.38/arch/arm64/configs/tisdk_am65xx-evm_defconfig

    CONFIG_GPIO_TPIC2810=m

    You need also to include tpic2810 in AM65x DTS file, in the main_i2c0 node, similar like pca9555 node.

    linux-4.19.38/arch/arm64/boot/dts/ti/k3-am654-base-board.dts

    &main_i2c0 {
        pinctrl-names = "default";
        pinctrl-0 = <&main_i2c0_pins_default>;
        clock-frequency = <400000>;

        pca9555: gpio@21 {
            compatible = "nxp,pca9555";
            reg = <0x21>;
            gpio-controller;
            #gpio-cells = <2>;
        };
    };

    Check also below txt file:

    linux-4.19.38/Documentation/devicetree/bindings/gpio/gpio-tpic2810.txt

    Regards,
    Pavel

  • Hello,

    Thanks for your response.

    Can I build the Linux Kernel without Yocto?

    Best regards!

  • Hi Silviu,

    Yes you can. Follow the below user guide:
