TMS320DM8168: SD ANALOG VIDEO

Part Number: TMS320DM8168

Hi ,

We have a custom DM8168 board with ti EZSDK. We should get CVBS analog video from IOUTD. What will be the pin muxing in board file and what all things should do to enable SD analog video ?I have alaredy gone through the  doc. but not clear about the same.

  • Hi Sreedevi,

The link you have provided is for TI811x/J5Eco device, for DM816x you need to use below wiki:

You might also check below wiki pages:

Regarding pinmux, DM816x datasheet, section 4.2.21 Analog Video Output Signals, and below wiki.

  • Hi Pavel,

I have enabled the driver support as per the doc http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/DM816X_AM389X_VPSS_Video_Driver_User_Guide#VPSS_Driver. (The "insmod ti81xxvo.ko"  command  generated /dev/video3 node. I have tried to dump the yuv using gstreamer  , but the following error is getting

    gst-launch-0.10 v4l2src device=/dev/video3 ! filesink location=108.yuv
    Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
ERROR: Pipeline doesn't want to pause.
ERROR: from element /GstPipeline:pipeline0/GstV4l2Src:v4l2src0: Device '/dev/video3' is not a capture device.
    Additional debug info:
    v4l2_calls.c(515): gst_v4l2_open (): /GstPipeline:pipeline0/GstV4l2Src:v4l2src0:
    Capabilities: 0x4000002
    Setting pipeline to NULL ...
    Freeing pipeline ...

I am able to stream the video from camera in vlc (rtsp-unicast). Could you please figure out the issue?...I only want CVBS output and as per the doc it is /dev/video3. How we can do pinmux for IOUTD?....it is not clear from data sheet.( Usually we are adding a pin in OMAP_MUX for a simple gpio pin).

  • Sreedevi,

DM816x Analog Video Output pins IOUTA/IOUTB/IOUTC/IOUTD/IOUTE/IOUTF/IOUTG has no other signals, thus no need for pinmux. For example, there is only one signal IOUTA on pin AT21. On this pin AT21 you can not export other signal than IOUTA, thus there is no pinmux register. The same is valid for pins AH19 (VDAC_VREF), AE22 (VDAC_RBIAS_HD) and AP19 (VDAC_RBIAS_SD).

The only pinmux option is for signals DAC_VOUT[1]_HSYNC and DAC_VOUT[1]_VSYNC.

    DAC_VOUT[1]_HSYNC pinmux register is PINCTRL21 for pin AR5, PINCTRL28 for pin AT9 and PINCTRL39 for pin AR8.

    DAC_VOUT[1]_VSYNC pinmux register is PINCTRL23 for pin AL5, PINCTRL29 for pin AP9 and PINCTRL38 for pin AL9.

    Pavel

  • Hi Pavel,

So we should do pin mux for DAC_VOUT[1]f_HSYNC and DAC_VOUT[1]_VSYNC for getting cvbs analog video through IOUTD?

No, I don't think so. I am just explaining regarding pinmux.

For IOUTD signal info, as it belongs to the HDVPSS, you can refer to DM816x TRM chapter 2. There is also SD DAC control register SD_DAC_CTRL in Control Module, that might impact IOUT signals.

You can also check HDVPSS user guide.

There are also some e2e threads that might be in help:

  • Pavel,

RTSP unicast stream is getting in custom board and i have enabled v4l2 capture and display driver. But nothing is getting in IOUTD. Should i add some configuration in board file? We have connected our cam to the vin[0]. Should we select the input for getting cvbs from IOUTD as we have two input ports vin[0] and vin[1]?If yes how can we select the input ?
