I am looking for a DaVinci / Linux guru to help me conceptualize some projects.

I want to work with an entrepreneurial Linux programmer who is willing to learn how to use the SheevaPlug. http://www.marvell.com/products/embedded_processors/developer/kirkwood/sheevaplug.jsp
I plan to use the SheevaPlug for a number of video related projects.
The basic concept is to marry low cost ( sub $10 ) B/W camera modules to the SheevaPlug. The SheevaPlug will perform object recognition and perform a variety of tasks. Some tasks must be fast and lean and will require coding in "C". Other tasks will be coded in higher level languages such as Python or Ruby.

I also plan to look at Texas Instruments ( http://focus.ti.com/apps/docs/appcategory.tsp?appId=79 ) as a possible supplier of building blocks.

The projects will be commercialized and also released as FLOSS. As my partner you will share the profits.

You will initially be paid a retainer fee to help develop the conceptual framework for this project.

Employer questions:     (1) Indicate your interest in being entrepreneurial and how you would approach this project.

  • We will be happy to talk to you about your overall system and help you choose appropriate TI components for your design;  I would suggest you send a request via www.ti.com/support and one of us would be happy to set-up a teleconference and discuss your design further.

  • Hello,

SheevaPlug seems to be a very interesting development platform. Especially, its small form factor designed to fit directly into a power plug opens up a whole segment of product possibilities.

Let me introduce myself. I'm a new entrepreneur based in Pune, India. I say new because I started working as a freelance software developer about a year back, and very recently (January this year) expanded my freelance activities by starting a small software development house by the name TekKraft. Please visit us at www.tekkraft.com. I'm still in the process of setting up my website so only the minimal information is uploaded.

As a freelancer/entrepreneur over the last one year, I've worked on projects in consumer electronics, industrial electronics and internet applications. Relevant to what you are looking for are two of my ongoing projects which are based on the TI DaVinci DM355 media processor. These are two video gateways for IP surveillance cameras. Some of their features are:

    1) 4-channel video multiplexing

    2) Video recording and playback

    3) Motion detection

    4) Remote monitoring and security automation

    5) 4-channel audio multiplexing

    6) Audio recording and playback

    7) VoIP phone

    8) Cellular call handling GSM/HSDPA

These 2 projects are for a Taiwanese OEM; I'm providing them board support and firmware development. This includes consultation in short-listing the components, driver development, creating application prototypes, creating applications etc. All the features mentioned above are implemented by me or my colleague.

Before starting as a freelancer, I've worked at a company for more than 3 years. The work there was mostly related to digital video and video scaling.

Coming back to SheevaPlug, as I understand your idea is to marry a low cost camera(s) with the SheevaPlug kit to create various kinds of security/surveillance appliances. We could also add a small LCD screen and that makes it an easy to install door security camera.

    Another possibility:

SheevaPlug + Bluetooth Dongle = Bluetooth Access Point

I'm certainly interested in working with you to create such products. Your proposed business model will work out well for me (initial retainer fee + share in profit).

You can reach me at kapil.pendse@gmail.com or at one of the email addresses given on my website (www.tekkraft.com).

Looking forward to hear from you.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Kapil Pendse
