Linux/AM5718: DDR capacity

Part Number: AM5718
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5728, CSD

Tool/software: Linux

Considering AM5718 for all its features, but can the DDR be more than 2GB, at least 4GB?

Is this a good part to start a new design or should I be considering another part?

  • Hi Davood,

AM5718 device has single EMIF, thus is capable of 2GBytes of DDR memory. You can start new design with AM5718 device if 2GB DDR memory is enough for your project.

For 4GBytes DDR memory, you need to check AM572x and AM574x devices, which has two EMIF modules.

  • Hello Pavel,

I was scanning over the presentation https://training.ti.com/sites/default/files/docs/am57x_technical_deep_dive_slides.pdf page 27 says 4GB is possible with f using stacked die package.  Is this doable.

However, with suggested part will AM5728 do, I seem to see all the requirement in AM5718 but the 4GB.

    IREQUIREMENT STATEMENT

                   Video encoder and decoder   (H.264)

    4GB or more DRAM

                   10/100/ and 1G Ethernet ports

USB 3.0/2.0 ports of fixed peripherals

                   4 microphone inputs  I2S

Lot of GPIOs (digital and analog)

                   More than 4 (I2C)

PCIe interfaces  -more than one port

One output for external audio      I2S

More than 3 SDIO x4   and one x8 for eMMC

                   MiPi analog camera inputs

                   UARTs

                   A HDMI connection

                   RGB/LVDS

                   CSI/CSD

                   CAN FD Bus

                   Many SPI interface

Replay of 4 video at 720p

Must be able to display a total of 120 frames per second from up to 4 video inputs

Be able to record up to combined 240 frames per second divided among the eight possible video inputs

Must support recording eight concurrent streams (optional)

  • Davood, if you need higher than 2GB, you need to use AM572x or AM574x.  AM571x and AM570x only support upto 2GB DDR3/L.

That statement about stacked die in the presentation is incorrect
