Can C6A8168 perform H264@1080p decode and/or encode?

Since I am new to the C67x floating point DSP. I want to know the video decoding and/or encoding performance of C6A8168, especially H264 video. Thank in advance.

    Hello,

    The C6A8168 does not include integrated video processors for video codec support.  There is no plan for supporting video codecs on the DSP.  If you need video encode/decode, then we recommend you look at the DaVinci product family.

      I am a bit shocked to see there is no video codec support on C6A8168, so what purpose to integrate a 12000MMAC DSP for?

      If intregra do not support video, how to compete with chips from Samsung and Freescale? What area should C6A8168 be adopted? Industrial control system?

      If you TI aim C6A8168 at CE market, video codec is must.

    I find the product named DM8168, it support mutichannal 1080p codec.

    But I donot know whether its price can compete with S5pc110 from samsung.

    Hi Qiang,

    Good question.  The C6A8168 is targeted at markets such as Machine/Industrial Vision, High End Test and Measurement, Tracking and Control, and Medical/Biological Imaging.  The DSP will be very useful for signal processing tasks such as FFTs, digital filtering and image analysis.

    The DM8168 is a pin compatible device that will be announced in 1Q2011.  It does have integrated video processors and will support mutichannel 1080p60 codecs.  Please contact your local TI Sales Reps for availability and pricing information.
