TMS320C5505 vs TMS320VC5505 bootloader

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C5505, TMS320VC5505

The TMS320VC5505 part had an 'approved devices' list for NOR boot in the built in bootloader. Because our flash part (SST34HF32A4) was not on this list we had to design in an I2C memory to boot from. I am now specifying a new design with the TMS320C5505 part. Will this 'C' part boot from the SST34HF32A4 directly or do we still need the I2C boot memory?

  • Hi John,

Let me reply first by sharing that the bootloader between these 2 devices have not change much. If your application requires the I2C, that it remains the same.

Next I would like to bring up is that we also support boot from SPI in 16-bit and 24-bit. If you have a new design, it would be faster that I2C.

    Steve

  • John,

Let me ask you a question. Did you try to boot from your flash and it did not work? I think it should work because just reading from a flash should be common. Could you please provide details?

  • Hi John,

The "approved device" list for NOR is only required for the re-authorized secure boot image. If you want to boot from NOR using non secure image or normal secure image, then the requirement is less restrictive:

    1. 16 bit NOR flash

    2. CPI compliant.

    Best regards,
