Blackhawk USB510 and C5515 DSP Connection Problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C5515, CCSTUDIO

I am trying to use a Blackhawk USB510 with the C5515 EVM but I keep getting different errors that I will explain in a moment. I have this problem for more tha 4 days now and its very important for us to find the cause before starting other things.

I have tried two different target configurations as follows:
1- I chose Blackhawk USB510 Emulator in the connection field and EVM5515 in Board or device field.
2- I chose Blackhawk USB510 Emulator in the connection field and TMS320C5515 in the board or device field.

for both target configurations I keep getting the following errors:

If I keep the basic configuration and dont change anything in the advanced tab of target configuration wizard, in both cases I get:
Error connecting to the target:
Error 0x80000240/-115
Fatal Error during: Initialization, OCS,

when i go to advanced configuration in target configuration page tabs, I can see that Emulator I/O Port is set to 0x0. changing it to any other number including 0x240 (which should be right) or 0x1 will generate the following error:
Error connecting to the target:
Error 0x80000240/-118
Fatal Error during: Initialization, OCS,

It should also note that I did install the latest version of blackhawk software from the "find and install" menu. and these results are with the latest version. before the latest version I kept getting the following error: (I thought this might help.)
Error connecting to the target:
Error 0x80000240/-121
Fatal Error during: Initialization, OCS, Controls

I am using CCS V4.2 (latest version) Node Locked Licence.

I appreciate your comments on how to get this fixed.

Regards,
Max

  • Hi Max,

Sorry for taking so long to response. I am having problem installing CCS4.2.0.10018 on my laptop from 4.1.2.00027 to match yours.

At the mean time, I would suggest you to try the on board USB510 emulator on the EVM. There is a mini USB connector which is for emulation.

    Regards,

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,

Thank you for the reply. I am in the final stages of my design and development. I have used the on board USB emulator up to now. Now is the time to move to the emulator as I have to use the emulator on my board as well. My board is assembled and after being able to connect to the EVM I plan to connect my board to the emulator. the emulator connections on my board are the same as the connections on the Eval board, that's why I am trying the eval board before moving to my board.

I am waiting for your kind reply.

    Regards,

    Max

  • Sorry Steve,

I answered it on a co-worker's PC. thats why you see a another username on top of my answer.

  • Hi Max,

After reading your messages, my thinking would be pointing to the clock integrity / HW on your board. As you mentioned, the emulator connector HW is same as EVM, thus your CCS setting should be identify. I would switch back to EVM to confirm all CCS setting work then switch to your new board.

    Regards,

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,

Thats exactly what I am doing. I have not connected it to my board yet!  that is why I never mentioned my own board in the initial post. I can't connect to the EVM and all the explanation is mentioned in my first post (about the EVM). if you need more information please let me know.

    Regards,

    Max

  • Max,

I finally got CCS4.2.0.10018 installed and tried connecting to a brand new / out of the box C5515 EVM successfully. I only have Blackhawk USB560M USB JTAG Emulator.

This is the environment I used:

    CCS version 4.2.0.10018

    Blackhawk USB560M JTAG Emulator

    TMS320C5515 EVM / ASSY 512700 REV B

Attached is a screen dump of my connection. I selected Blackhawk USB560-M Emulator with EVM5515 in my Target Configuration.

    4466.Blackhawk_USB560m_C5515.rtf

I see that there are Blackhawk USB510 Emulator and Blackhawk USB510L Emulator available in the Connection list.

    Please confirm.

    Regards,

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,

The Board is the same one but the emulator is not what I was using!

we had to buy another emulator because of project deadlines. we baught a "Spectrum Digital XDS510 USB" and both boards (EVM and My board) can connect without problems.

So I still think there is something wrong with Blackhawk USB510 emulator and CCStudio communicating or with other technical stuff concerning USB510 that I am not aware of.

Thank you very much for taking the time but out of curiosity would you please test the EVM with Blackhawk USB510? I want to make sure that the problem exists! if not then we have a bad emulator here that we may need to return!!

    Regards,

    Max

  • Hi MAx,

Good news that you can get back on course. I will try getting a Blackhawk USB510.

    Regards,

    Steve
