TMDXIDK5718: TPS659037 auto turn ON in EVM

Part Number: TMDXIDK5718
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5718,

Hi,

 I am using AM5718 EVM.TMDXIDK5718

In one of my EVM boards which was working properly previously now shows up an auto turn ON issue.

There are no hardware modification done on this board, If I apply power board turn ON automatically without even waiting for activation from PWRON pushbutton.

If I turn OFF using long press on Power ON pushbutton, device turn OFF but on release device powers up again.

I have checked R18 and R931. R18 has a 10k resistor and R931 is unpopulated. The device draws 200mA of power even if I apply Vmain= 4V, though RESET_IN is low.

On applying Vmain = 4V when I probe R18 I see a 1.2V voltage level even when PMIC is held at reset. One option is to remove R18 and check whether auto turn ON issue goes away.

Is there any thing I am missing??

  • Hello Rakesh,

It is good that you checked R18. To continue debug we need to find why there is 1.2V on the resistor. V3_3D is supplied by the PMIC so something on the board is leaking current to the V3_3D rail and raising the voltage to 1.2V

RPWRON, PWRON, and POWERHOLD are the main signals that will turn on the PMIC based on datasheet figure 5-18 and section 5.4.2 "State Transition Requests".
