I have some questions about TDA4M


1. What is purpose of this pin (TDA4VM, V19, VMON_IR_VEXT)? Can we check a voltage using this pin?


2. In datasheet, some voltage pins aren't monitored in POK module. Is it OK in terms of functional safety?


3. In EVM schematic, VMON_ER_VSYS pin set 2.3V as UV. Is it OK?

    1. Yes, you can monitor a voltage at your discretion via this pin. Please see section Power OK (POK) Modules in the TDA4 TRM.

    2. You are right, there are so many voltages supplying the SoC due to its complexity. Far not all are being monitored.  I have no answer to this question (yes or no). I guess this will depend on the overall application of the SoC and your design. Still, I beleive that the voltages monitored were carefully selected.

    3. This pin typically monitors the VSYS supply of the PMIC (PMIC's input). If 2.3V is part of the PMIC's spec, then this should be ok. You are free, of course, to select higher threshold, if you beleive this better suits your requirements.

    I understand your first answer. We couldn't find information of VMON_IR_VEXT in TRM, because this name was changed.

    If we use this pin to voltage monitor, should we keep some voltage range? Can we connect this pin with 1.1V level directly?

    Note that VMON_IR_VEXT is the actual, updated name. The name you are seeing in TRM is the old one since new TRM version is not released yet. We expect TRM release mid-October.

    Yes, you can feed a voltage up to 1.8V on this pin. Software must set the trigger point(s) in the corresponding POK modules - one for undervoltage, and one for overvoltage, as required.
