AM5728: AM5728 vs. AM5728 Rev. A

So I just got an EVM from a third-party which sports an AM5728 processor. When trying to create my initial (purely default) target configuration in CCS, I have two choices: "AM5728" and "AM5728 Rev. A."

How do I figure out which one to choose?
What's the difference? Why the separate choice?

I'm not inclined to unseat the heatsink and look at the specific part #, and my only point of contact with this third-party manufacture is their sales rep, and he is not able to answer.

Please use the AM572x GP EVM setup in CCS as described here:

Rev A was meant to be for 1.1 silicon. If you use the EVM configuration in CCS, the initialization GEL detects the silicon revision and takes appropriate initialization action. We provide a GEL file in CCS install that detects the silicon revision and prints the value to CCS console using the following code.

    silicon_type = (RD_MEM_32(0x4AE0C204) & 0xF0000000) >> 28;

    device_type = (RD_MEM_32(0x4A002134) & 0x1C0) >> 6;

    if (silicon_type == 1)
    {
        silicon_rev_major = 1;
        silicon_rev_minor = 1;	
		
    }
	else if (silicon_type == 2)
    {
        silicon_rev_major = 2;
        silicon_rev_minor = 0;
    }

Most production EVMs are built with PG 2.0 silicon. Major difference from the board perspective between the two revision is the VD_MPU (boot voltage programming) for PMIC as discussed here:

So I clearly understand, you are saying that "Rev. A" is just referring to the Silicon version? And "Rev. A" is synonymous with "Silicon Rev. 2.0?"

RevA was a suffix initially added to CCS device name to be aligned with Silicon 1.1 but when Rev 2.0 was available, we kept the RevA device part name for backward compatibility for existing users and introduced new Device name independent of silicon revision.

For new users, you can pick the EVM or IDK platform that auto populated the initialization GEL files which have mechanism to detect the silicon revision and handles the initialization appropriately.
