TMDXIDK5718: Ping error

Guru 16800 points

Hello,

Have you experienced with ping error on TMDXIDK5718?
In spite of the direct connection between PC and TMDXIDK5718 with Ethernet cable, some packets seem to be lost.
However, because this is very rare case (once per million and random), so we cannot find the cause.

  SDK version : PROCESSOR-SDK-LINUX-RT-AM57X 06_00_00_07
  EVM : TMDXIDK5718
direct connected PC (sending ping to EVM) : Ubuntu 18.04.2

  • Hi,

Please provide details about the hardware connection. to which Ethernet port is the cable connected? Please post the log file.

  • Hello Biser-san,

    Thank you for your reply.
PC and TMDXIDK5718 (Gb Ethernet0 port) are connected directly without any switch, hub and so on.
We've confirmed the error only once, so we don't have log file.
Therefore, we want to know whether you have the experience about the ping error.

    Best Regards,
    Nomo

  • Hi,

I have not seen any errors with ping on when performing a long duration test on a TI board. I typically see errors when bringing up a board or through misuse, both neither of those are applicable here.

The only suggestions I can make is that you will have to prove the endpoint that broke the cycle. Running over a million packets must have taken hours to hit this issue. ICMP is not a considered a reliable protocol since there is not any guarantees that all packets will delivered. Since there are only two points I would check to see if there are any interface HW errors such as RX CRC, overruns etc. that are reported with ethtool on both end points here.
