Is there a Simple low power Micro DVR?

Hello,

I'm considering developing a micro sized standard definition DVR and am wondering if there is one out there already. I want the smallest and lowest power system I can. I only want composit video in, and two channels of audio. I simply want to record to a SD type card. No play back or display needed.

Thank you,

Bill

  • what video compression do you require (mpeg4, h.264,mpeg2)?

  • Since you are posting in the DM355 forum I am guessing you are interested in this particular Davinci device? To expand on Juan's question, if your interest is the DM355 than MPEG4 would have to be a reasonable format for you, as this is the only video format that the DM355 effectively supports.

Unfortunately I have not come across any particularly small DM355 based boards that would do what you are seeking, there are some ip camera reference designs that are low power and very small form factor but they would lack the composite video input. If you intend to develop your own board I would suggest starting with the DM355 EVM board from Spectrum Digital, as it has all the interfaces you would need already in place and the out of the box demo can record video which you could easily modify to be saved to a SD card.
