TDA4VMXEVM: Linux kernel crashing during reboot/shutdown

Part Number: TDA4VMXEVM

Hi,

every time I try rebooting or shutting down the EVM running Linux on A72 (booted from SD card), there is a kernel panic (seems to be from the pvr graphics driver).

Is this known behavior and how can I avoid this? The file system already got corrupted once and I need the target to be remotely rebootable.

I can provide the log if that is helpful.

Regards

Dominic Fellner

  • Hi Dominic,

please provide the log (I pinged kernel experts to look at it).

    Regards,

    Yordan

  • Hi Yordan,

    please find the attached log.

  • HI

When shutting down need to ensure any active applications using the GPU, display are shut down in the right order. If not, the buffer that had been allocated could end up being freed up before GPU completes list of submitted commands

Can you additionally describe from GPU, display usage perspective what applications were running

  • Even if I do not run any applications and do a 'shutdown -h now" right after boot and login via serial console, kernel panic happens during shutdown.

I appended two more logs which look slightly different in the call trace.

  • Dominic

Can you attach the complete boot log which would include information on initialization sequence

from the logs you had shared, it appears that the failure is still from the Graphics Driver side

Even if you do not necessarily launch any application, as part of the initialization sequence, the start up scripts could start wayland/weston (composition manager) and other applications. Hence having the complete boot log would be helpful

  • Hi Dominic,

Could you also share on the TI baseline release information on which you are seeing this issue.

    Thanks,
    Gowtham

  • This issue happened in PSDK 6.0.0

After updating to PSDK 6.1.0, this has been solved.

    Thanks for your support.
