AM3505 wake on ethernet

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3505

I have a customer considering the AM3505 for a solar/battery powered system that would like to wake up the processor when a certain packet type is received. It looks like the "Energy Detect Power Down" capability of the Stellaris Firestorm devices is capable of this, but a single-chip solution would be more cost/power effective if possible.

Is this possible with the AM3505? If so, does any documentation exist? Or do I need to recommend a 2-chip solution?

thanks,

  • Patrick, this is possible, but then you would have to determine if the AM3505 can get you to a low enough power consumption level during sleep mode.  In order for the AM3505 to receive a packet during sleep, several things need to stay powered up, including EMAC, the external PHY, memory, and possibly the ARM core.  The Stellaris or other solution may be able to handle this low power receive better.

At this time, we don't have an example to demonstrate this.
