AM6548: Android audio playback issue

Part Number: AM6548

Hello TI Team,

We have an AM654x EVM Processor Board from TI along with the Application card and LCD Display to exercise audo playback and audio capture on Android Pie.

We are flashing the prebuild images using the setup.sh script from TI's ti-processor-sdk-android-am65xx-evm-06.01.00.08-Linux-x86-Install.bin.

Once the board got succesfully booted we have istalled VLC and copied some audio files to play from the device. But while trying to play the audio files(mp3,wav) from the android UI,  we are not able to hear anything form the hedphones that have been connected to lineout of the application card.

We are observing the presence of the sound card from the kernel and able to do playblack  fusing the Tiny ALSA utilities (tinyplay, tinycap) from the Kernel Level.

 130|console:/ # cat /proc/asound/cards

0 [AM65xGPEVM ]: AM65x-GPEVM - AM65x-GPEVM
AM65x-GPEVM

From the release notes(06.01.00.08) of the Android Pie we are seeing that audio for the Android is functional.

I was wondering if you can help us why we are not able to play audio from the Android UI?

Please find the attached logcat file for the android.logcat_main.txt

Regards,

Ramakrishna

  • Hello Ramakrishna,

Could you please share what app you are using to play the audio?

    Regards,
    Krunal

  • Update: Unlike AM57x, there is no audio HAL implemented for AM65x. Therefore, the command line test will work but you will not be able to play audio through an app.

  • Hello Krunal,

    Thanks for the quick response,

The below are the few questions that i would like to put in front of you.

    1. In Android release notes "06.01.00" of AM654X EVM from TI mentioned that MP3/AAC audio playback hasbeen tested. I was wondering if you can let me know how TI tested these formats on this release?

    2. If there is no Audio HAL support in this release, is there any plan to give support in upcoming releases? if yes, can we expect in next release of Android P ?

    3. Can we port Audio HAL from AM57X to AM65X without much hardware dependency?

    Regards,

    Ramakrishna

  • Hello Ramakrishna,

    1. In Android release notes "06.01.00" of AM654X EVM from TI mentioned that MP3/AAC audio playback hasbeen tested. I was wondering if you can let me know how TI tested these formats on this release?

We have only tested the audio playback on the AM57x device.

    2. If there is no Audio HAL support in this release, is there any plan to give support in upcoming releases? if yes, can we expect in next release of Android P ?

As of now, we do not have any plans for implementing the audio HAL on the AM65x device.

    3. Can we port Audio HAL from AM57X to AM65X without much hardware dependency?

I recommend you to please review the following AM57x project as a reference:
