Why do I have CPLD on board?

Hi All,

On my EVM board (from a third-party provider rather than from Spectrum) I have found one CPLD chip installed, which according to the schematics is a Xilinx XC9572XL-TQ100 chip.  I searched through the document from the EVM provider and could found only a few lines of desprition on CPID pins and it was mainly about how CPLD is used to control LED lights.

The CPLD have as many as 90 pins and I am curious on its function. Could anyone drop me a few lines on the possible use of this CPLD on the EVM board?

Thanks,

Zheng

  • You need to provide more information, specifically which "EVM" are you referencing?  Which device is featured?

Judging based solely on the names of the signals, the EM_* are from the processor's external memory interface which allows the processor to read/write registers inside the CPLD as memory mapped registers.

Possible functionality inside (again based solely on the names of the signals pictured):
LED control.  Controlling the reset of the on-board TVPxxxx device.  Enabling the TVPxxxx device.

  • Hi Brandon,

We have 6455 EVM kit with us.

In which, U7 is a CPLD, we need to program it to make it up for our application. Please help me to get the programming scheme or part for the same.

We have Altera USB byte blaster with us, from CPLD manufacturer, for programming, which has female header at the other end.
