AM5728: IVA-HD question

Hi,

We're using gstreamer to encode/decode video using codecs that utilize IVA-HD on the AM5728 EVM. Have a couple questions related to obtaining IVA-HD status information.

Is there any API in c that would allow me to check the state of IVA HD processor? Mainly I would like write a little utility that would check its state, and maybe memory or whatever is possible to see on that unit.

We wanted to know if there is a utility that can check the activity or utilization of the IVA-HD core, or some API that would allow us to write our own utility to do the same? We want to see if the IVA-HD core is performing video encode/decode.

Today we're using gstreamer to invoke the IVA-HD codecs. The examples you referenced (thanks for those by the way) use C to call into the codec engine libraries directly. Can we still do that while gstreamer is running codecs? Or is the suggestion to use codec engine APIs directly and not use gstreamer? I don't think TI supports that model any more.

Hi Brad,

It depends on the customer's use-case and both methods are valid for utilizing the IVA-HD codecs. Also, it does not seem like the ducati plugins have the ability to output the status of the codec. If possible, you could enable the variable "GST_DEBUG" in your pipeline and ensure all the transactions are correct.
