OMAP-L137 USB Thermal Issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L137

Hello,

We are using OMAP-L137's USB port in "Device" mode,

in our custom board whenever we Power on the board and connect the

USB to a host(PC), the temperature of the device(OMAP-L137) goes very high

from 60 degC to 80 degC.

The temperature remains same even if the power is removed but USB cable is still connected.

But the temperature goes down if the USB cable is diconnected.

We are investigating if there is any mistake in our USB circuit.

Is this kind of issue related to USB VBUS?

Please let me know if anybody has experienced this kind of issue and

if there are any references.

Thankyou in advance.

  • Chikku,

This type of temperature rise is not expected.  Please make sure that there is no potential short on the L137's USB signals that is completed when a cable is plugged in.  Also note that the VBUS voltage is supposed to be sourced by the USB host so if your L137 USB circuit is supplying a voltage on VBUS when it is configured to be a device, you will have contention with the USB host.
