AM4378: Profibus Linux support

Part Number: AM4378
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PROFIBUS, AM1810

We need your advices to select right operating system for our project which includes sitara soc and profibus & profinet interfaces. We want to work on linux but only available source is processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Profibus_slave_support_in_AM1810_RT_Linux_SDK_04.01.00.00_User_Guide . Do you think we should select RTOS to save time on profibus and profinet works or we can go on rt linux with enouh level of profibus & profinet support?

  • Hi,

I apologize for the delay in responding. We recommend based on your question looking for profinet/profibus is going with an TI RTOS solution at this time. There is a future plan for support in Linux.

    Best Regards,

    Schuyler

  • Thank you. Actually we need linux support to speed up interface design works.

We will be looking forward to the profinet/profibus support in linux.

  • Hi,

we will insist to work on linux for profibus. please give us some tricky points.

question 1: Is it possible to use same profibus PRU binaries of  "AM1810 Profibus Evaluation Module, Profibus slave support in AM1810 RT Linux" in linux rt on AM437x ?

question 2: Is it possible to use same profibus PRU binaries of AM437x RTOS in linux rt on AM437x?

    Thankyou.

  • Hi,

I appreciate your desire to work with Linux. As I mentioned above currently TI does not have support for Profibus in Linux on AM437x. With a Linux context support for the protocols is more than just the PRU binaries there is a Linux driver required and testing to make sure that data path works as expected.

    Best Regards,
