AM3358: GP EVM differences between Rev.1.5C and 1.6A

Part Number: AM3358

Dear Champs,

Could you please let me know where I can find details the HW difference of AM3358 GP EVM between 1.5C and 1.6A?

My customer downloaded WINCE BSP from WITEKIO and bought AM3358 GP EVM to evaluate it, but failed while boot-up.

I found the WINCE BSP of WITEKIO was developed on AM3358 GP EVM 1.5C, but my customer bought version 1.6A.

I'm wondering why the WINCE BSP image was not working on EVM v1.6A and want to check what is the difference between 1.5C and 1.6A, but could not find any details.

Please let me know what is changed in AM3358 GP EVM since 1.5C version.

Thanks and Best Regards,

SI.

  • Hi Sung-IL,

There were no significant changes between Rev 1.5C and Rev 1.6A, mainly updates to passive components that were no longer available.   The only two changes I have found is that protection diodes were added to the User Reset/Interrupt switches and that header J42 was added to allow access to the VPP pin and to GPMC CS1n.

    Regards, Bill

  • Dear,

How about the revision of AM335x?

Is there XAM3359ZCZ in the Rev1.5C of EVM?

    Thanks and Best Regards,

    SI.

  • Hi Sung-IL,

The best way to determine the device installed is to read the device_id register.  See section 9.3.1.15 of the Technical Reference Manual for more information.

  • Hi Bill,

Unfortunately my customer only have v1.6a of EVM, but it seemed WinCE BSP of Witekio was tested only on the 1.5c version of EVM, and it was not working on 1.6a EVM and boot failed.

So, I think the WinCE BSP failed to pass device_id checking in the boot process, and want to check the exact device of AM335x on the v1.5c EVM.

I checked there is AM3358BZCZ rev2.0 on the v1.6a EVM.

This issue is blocking my customer evaluation of WinCE BSP now and I'm afraid we will be failed to win this opportunity due to this issue.

    Thanks and Best Regards,

    SI.

  • Hi Sung-IL,

I checked with the system test group and was told that TI is not supporting WinCE anymore.   I have a question out to see if there is a third party that is actively supporting it.  The newer version of the board is tested with the the latest Software SDK and no problems were seen.

    Regards, Bill

  • Hi Bill,

I'm sorry for your confusion. What I meant was that my customer contacted third party to get WinCE BSP and want to evaluation it first before having contract with them.

When they tried to run the WinCE BSP binary on AM335x GP EVM, they found booting fail, and I'm suspecting the booting fail was caused by device ID check fail.

I just want to check with you if my suspecting is right and if there is difference in the device ID between v1.5c and v1.6a of AM335x GP EVM. I do not want to check with you why booting fail was occurred.

The third party requested to have contract to check this issue, but it is hard for my customer to have contract before evaluation.

    Thanks and Best Regards,

    SI.

  • Hi Sung-IL,

I understand.  I suggest you read the specific device_id registers from the boards that you have and provided those to the third party.  There have been a number of builds for the GP EVM and the devices may be different from the ones that you have on your boards.

    Regards, Bill
