Dear team,
Customer have a question about AM3359 evm, they found RMII and MII are connected together in EVM guide. Would you give comments on the reason? Is it necessary to connect the two interface all the time?
Thanks.
Best regards,
Sammi

Hi,
This is the ICEv2 board. MII interfaces are from the PRU-ICSS. RMII interfaces are from the CPSW. This is done on this EVM in order to be able to exploit both interfaces, though NOT at the same time. They are impossible to use concurrently on AM335x devices due to overlapping pinmuxing. To answer your question - no, customers should connect only the interface they need - CPSW or PRU.
Hi Biser,
Thanks for your response, it is very clear.
So I checked with customer that they would use PRU-ICSS. They want to know when will use CPSW, will it use? As a three port, etherCAT master station?
Thanks.
Best regards,
Sammi
On AM335x devices it is possible to have 2x PRU MII interfaces (needed for EtherCAT), and 1x CPSW RMII port (for standard Ethernet). I've attached the pinmux file for this configuration: 2xPRU_1xCPSW.pinmux
