AM4376: Cross-compiler options under .NET framework

Part Number: AM4376

TI Friends & Family,

Our customer is interested in leveraging software development under the Microsoft .NET framework for embedded development within the context of Sitara Processor designs.  Are we aware of any cross-compiler options that exist today, allowing customers to develop in .NET but perhaps under the Linux environment, thus more enabling Sitara in native embedded format?  There are rumors that Microsoft is opening up .NET support which could in theory enable something like this, under a Linux development environment.  But we are not sure about this.

Any comments or guidance welcomed.  The underlying desire is to take advantage of more readily-available .NET PC software engineers, to develop applications at a high level (PC) versus less readily-available truly embedded programmers developing at the lower level (BSP/SDK/etc).

TY,
CY

  • Hi Chris,

We've only seen this request a few times over the years, so it hasn't achieved the critical mass necessary for us to add it officially to the SDK.

Given the SDK is based on Yocto, any instructions that apply there should provide a possible path to enabling this feature. So, while at this time we don't have any plans to add it to the SDK, they Yocto community might be a possible path for someone that wanted to add it to their Yocto distribution based off of the SDK.

    Thanks.

  • Ditto to this one, as well Ron.

    Appreciate your input, as always.
