Hi,

My customers are worried about AM6548(28) PCB Stack-up. AM65x EVM is made of 14 layers.

I checked the PCB Stack-up in the following document.

The minimum stack-up for routing the DDR interface is a six-layer stack up

Question:
Why is the evaluation board 14 layers?

Competing products can be made with eight layers, which lowers costs. Customers want to make AM65x with 8 layers.

Hi,

The fact that the EVM board is 14 layers does not in any way imply that this is a requirement for customers. Customers can design their boards with the number of layers they choose, as long as the guidelines and requirements are met (e.g. trace lengths, impedances, length matching, etc...)

Thank you for your reply. I understand that we can make it less than 14 layers. Please let me know the reason of 14 layers. I want to reassure customers for some reason.

EVM boards are very early designs, and I suppose the designers wanted to make sure they have enough PCB layers to ensure fast turnaround and prevent PCB respin.
