Hi Champs,

We are looking for a low cost micro/dsp which can play MPEG2/MPEG4 video at 30fps in resolutions up to 1280 X 720. Can we use TMS320DM368 as a solution for this? The application is a network media player so we will need ethernet/MAC in the processor chipset.

    Reema,

    The cheapest solution would be to use a DM365 @ 270 MHz. This part  can decode MPEG2 MP @ 720p30 and MPEG4 SP @ 720p30. The DM365 @ 300 Mhz, which cost only slightly more, would add some bandwidth for additional background tasks. The DM368 @ 432 MHz  supports 1080p30 and is fully pin to pin and SW compatible with the DM365.

    So, I would recommend to develop on DM365 or DM368 EVM (available next month), but plan on using a DM365 @ 270MHz for production.
