AM3352: DDR3L and eMMC compatibility

Had a couple questions regarding the DDR3L and eMMC compatibility with AM3352 as follows:-

DDR3L - The AM3352 datasheet specifies 1600MT/s for a 800MHz DDR3L (can you confirm this?). Is it ok to use a DDR3Ls which have a higher max. data rate (Ex. 1866MT/s)?
eMMC - AM3352 datasheet states that it supports MMC 4.3 andJEDEC. Is it ok to use MMC ver. 4.4, Ver 5.0 or ver 5.1 and JESD84-B50 or JESD84-B51?

1. Yes, DDR3-1600 is the minimum required speed grade if you use a 400MHz DDR clock.

2. Yes, newer eMMC's are backward compatible.

Hi Biser,

quick question on #1. the customer is using a 800MHz ddr3L but you specified 400MHz. Did you mean to say DD3-1600 is minimum for 800MHz DDR Clock?

No, maximum DDR clock frequency for AM335x devices is 400MHz. DDR3-1600 is indeed a 800MHz speed grade, 1600 is the data rate, which is 2x the clock rate. All DDR3 speed grades will also work at lower frequencies, down to 303MHz, as specified by the JEDEC standard.

For AM335x devices DDR3-1600 is the minimum required speed grade for 400MHz DDR clock frequency. See Table 7-60 in the AM335x Datasheet Rev. L.
