OMAP-L138: McASP Configuration With External Clocks

Part Number: OMAP-L138

Hi,

We're planning to use the McASP with external ACLKR and ACLKX clocks. My question is about configuring the McASP if these clocks are not running. The documentation says to have a timeout when reading the GBLCTL register when verifying that the writes were successful. If these clocks aren't running, I assume we'll time out but does that mean the write isn't successful, or does it just mean that the write won't be reflected back by the read until the clocks start up?

If it means that the writes won't be successful, are there any obvious problems we'd run into by running off the internal clock while we're configuring and then switching to the external clocks once config is complete?

Thanks in advance for any help!
