DM37 H.264 BP D1 encode memory bandwidth

Hi.

customer wants to make sure DM37 is capable of handling H.264 BP D1 enc and has ressources left for video analytics. We checked with matrix demo OSD the ARM and DSP load looks good, but how can I reassure the customer about memory BW left?

DSP is loaded 40% : does it mean  60% of the frame period the DSP does nothing? what happens during that timeslot on the memorybus (next frame capture? LCD refresh? )?

rough estimate in this timeslot an around would be interesting.

Regards,

  • The answer to your question depends lot on what video analytics algo you are running on DSP and how much resource it consumes. But just to give you my experience, i was able to run D1 H.264 encode and decode simultaneously  @  30fps without any issues. So if your algo need resources very similar to what a typical H.264 decoder uses then i think you will okay to do all these on DSP. In addition to this, you can always refer H.264 encoder datasheet and get the resource information and from there compute the remaining resources.

    Thanks
