choosing optimal dsp chip

hi everyone

İ will create an application which gets video images from camera and applying face recognition algorithm in real time(app : < 1 sec.) for my thesis.

However i don't decide what dsp chip is useful for this application.

İs single core dsp enough for this application?

or can i use different chips such as da vinci multi core etc.

İf you give me a technical description(processor,memory,I/0,interfaces etc.) of appropriate chips,i would be very happy.

Thanks in advance

  • Ali Kemal,

Try using our DSP selection tool at http://focus.ti.com/en/multimedia/flash/selection_tools/dsp/dsp.html . You can specify the parameters that you need and it will filter the available processors accordingly.  Depending on the size of your recognition database and the number of comparison values, a single 1+ GHz DSP might be all that you need to meet your 1 second requirement.  You might investigate the DaVinci platform, which will give you an ARM microcontroller with which you can handle getting the images from the camera and a 64x+ DSP for doing the image processintg.
