TDA4VMXEVM: Send and receive I2C data

Dear experts,

I'm using J721E evm and have SDK Linux Automotive in SD Crad (booting from sd card).

I want to send some data from this board to a serializer via I2C bus and also read data come from the device.

Could you please tell me how I can do it. I mean what hardware interface I should connect to serializer and what tools or software I need to use to send/receive I2C data.

I have only the terminal via minicom to communicate with evm.

You didn't specify which serializer you are attempting to communicate. The EVM's User Guide provides the I2C mapping for all peripherals - see Table 17. If you are using an Expansion board, the specific board's User Guide should also provide the interface mapping.

Hi Robert,

I would like to test different families of Serializer and Deserializer (Ux940, Ux941, Ux929, Ux949, Ux949A, Ux947, Ux948 ...etc).

How I can send and receive I2C data using only the terminal via minicom. Is this done by command line ? if yes, could you please provide me with some of these commands ?

I2C0 is available on Header J9 - it can be used to interface with external hardware.

Hi Brahim,

On linux you could use:

i2cdump -f -y bus_number slave_id (To read all the registers associated with the slave)
i2cset -f -y bus_number slave_id reg_offset reg_value (Write reg_value to reg_offset on the slave_id)

ex: i2cdump -f -y 0x0 0x58 will read all the i2c registers on the bus 0 slave ID 0x58.

I need to read to read data at the output of UB941 serializer, is the following command correct ?

i2cdump -f -y 0x1 0x0E

Generally speaking, I would like to check if there any sognal at DSI output, so I'm thinking to read I2C 1 data.

Brahim,

For UB941, you would have to PDK driver on R5F for I2C read/write operations, as the i2c instances on which UB941 is connected, is controlled by R5F.
