AM3358: What is the future of AM3358 / BeagleBone Black?

Part Number: AM3358
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5729

Hi,

we're currently using the BeagleBone Black in a product which is sold quite good. Now that the new BeagleBone AI is available, we of course wonder what the future of the current BeagleBone Black and it's AM3358 SoC is. Unfortunately the BB AI and its SoC AM5729 is not a usable replacement for different reasons:

  • it is way too expensive while it has several features and functions which are not neede
  • it has a heat-problem, when capes are mounted on top, the heatsink is no longer enough to ensure proper operation
  • software support is poor, there is neither a StarterWare-like BSP available nor some other resources/esamples that would allow develop bare metal firmware

So...any feedback regarding the future of the BBB? How long may it and the AM3358 be available?

Thanks!
