AM5728: AM5728 package thermal characteristics

Part Number: AM5728

Hi team,

I have some questions about package thermal characteristics of AM5728.

1. What does datasheet 5.8.1 NOTE mean? is the thermal resistance tested when  power dissipation is 1.5W and ambient temperature is 85ºC? If the power dissipation is 3-5 W, will the thermal resistance be different?

2. When the power dissipation is about 4W and the ambient temperature is 85ºC, Customer tested the case temperature is nearly 103ºC. So the junction temperature is over 105ºC which is higher than our recommendation. Will it trigger AM5728 OT protection?

Thanks.

  • 1.  It will not be significantly different at 3 to 5W

    2. No this will not trigger OT protection.  OT protection (TSHUT) triggers at 123 degC.  However, there is a chance of long term reliability impact for operating above 105 degC (below the projected 100k POH).

    Regards,

    Kyle
