TMDX654IDKEVM: SR1: extension ethernet interfaces don't work on SDK 7.0.1

Part Number: TMDX654IDKEVM

SR1 AM654x IDK extension ethernet interfaces don't work with PROCESSOR-SDK-LINUX-RT-AM65X 7.0.1. Tested on SN 39184P810005

'ip addr' shows just MCU ethernet eth0 and PRU ethernet interfaces on the main board, 4 interfaces are missing:

Steps to reproduce:

1) Install Ubuntu 18.04

2) Install PROCESSOR-SDK-LINUX-RT-AM65X 07_00_01_07

software-dl.ti.com/.../ti-processor-sdk-linux-rt-am65xx-evm-07_00_01_07-Linux-x86-Install.bin
to $HOME/ti-processor-sdk-linux-rt-am65xx-evm-07_00_01_07/

4) Insert SD card to the PC

5) Create SD card

cd $HOME/ti-processor-sdk-linux-rt-am65xx-evm-07_00_01_07/

Replace /dev/sdc with your SD card device and then run

sudo bin/mksdboot.sh --device /dev/sdc --sdk .

6) Mount SD card boot partition.

sudo mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt

7) Use SR1 sysfw.itb for boot

sudo cp /mnt/sysfw-am65x-evm.itb /mnt/sysfw.itb

8) Umount SD card

sudo umount /mnt

9) Insert SD card to the SR1 IDK

10) Attach UART USB cable and power supply to the IDK.

11) Switch on the IDK.

12) Login as root, no password

13) List available interfaces

ip addr

  • Hello,

    This might be related to the overlay format change that triggered a Ethernet driver bug. To confirm, could you stop the boot at u-boot prompt, issue printenv and send me the full printout of the uboot environment. I intended to verify if the Idk overlay dtbo file was taken.

    Regards

    Jian

  • denek,

    It seems the variable $overlay_files was not defined, instead the a variable $name_overlays was defined. Can you try to change:

             name_overlays=k3-am654-idk-sr1.dtbo k3-am654-pcie-usb2.dtbo

    to:

             overlay_files=k3-am654-idk-sr1.dtbo k3-am654-pcie-usb2.dtbo

    and see if these dtbo files get loaded. Please also not that u-boot params are saved to the eMMC by default, when you issue saveenv. But it only got loaded next time u-boot execute. i.e., you need to power cycle the EVM once the new viable is saved.

    Let me know how it goes. Sorry for the delayed response.

    Jian

  • All interfaces work If I add

             overlay_files=k3-am654-idk-sr1.dtbo k3-am654-pcie-usb2.dtbo

    to uEnv.txt

    Please fix it in the next release.
