AM6546: Waiting for root device

Hi,

I have placed rootfs in second partition of SD card(MMC1). When mounting rootfs from SD card it is failing.Execution stops at "waiting for root device".

I have verified PARTUUID as well, and hard coded bootargs "root=/dev/mmcblk1p2 rw rootfstype=ext4 rootwait",still I am facing same issue.

By observing log i came to know that kernel is not able to detect MMC1 partition,I found some information from below link:

I provided rootdelay in bootargs as well. Still I am facing the same issue.Help me in resolving this issue.

As we are using custom board, i have verified power supply and pin configurations, which are similar to evm.

Hi Chetan,

Are you using default boot images from the pre-built binaries of the SDK?
Can you try to make your sd card using:

http://software-dl.ti.com/processor-sdk-linux/esd/AM65X/latest/exports/docs/linux/Overview/PSDKLA_Formatting_SD_Card.html

The procedure above should give you all the required partitions on the SD card.

Once you get to u-boot prompt press any key & from the u-boot promt:

env default –a –f
saveenv

Then reboot.

From the logs it looks like MMC1 didn't enumerate at all. Only MMC2 (eMMC) enumerated.

Make sure you provide the correct values for 'vmmc-supply' and 'vqmmc-supply' properties in mmc1 node of dts.

vmmc-supply: Supply for the card power
vqmmc-supply: Supply for the bus IO line power

I have used same procedure to create sd card partitions and executed using default environment as well.

Still I am facing the same issue.

Hi Vishal,

I was able to verify vmmc-supply in dts. Please find node below:

&sdhci1 {
   vmmc-supply = <&vdd_mmc1_sd>;
   pinctrl-names = "default";
   pinctrl-0 = <&main_mmc1_pins_default>;
   ti,driver-strength-ohm = <50>;
   disable-wp;
};

vdd_mmc1_sd is fixed regulator, which will supply 3.3v to sd card interface.please find dts node as below:

    vdd_mmc1_sd: fixedregulator-sd {
       compatible = "regulator-fixed";
       regulator-name = "vdd_mmc1_sd";
       regulator-min-microvolt = <3300000>;
       regulator-max-microvolt = <3300000>;
       regulator-boot-on;
       enable-active-high;
       gpios = <&pca9554 4 GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH>;
   };

I cross verified dts with evm, "vqmmc-supply" was not defined in evm. help me in updating "vqmmc-supply" value.

Supply for the bus IO line is comming from the processor ball VDDSHV_MMC1(k21).

Have you confirmed that the associated GPIO pin from the PCA9554 is being driven high as expected? Do you see the 3.3V present on the SD card?

Hi Vishal & Brad,

I have verified vdd_mmc1_sd , 3.3V is supplied to sd card.

when I verify bus voltage it is 3.3V. voltage is not changing(to 1.8) based on sd card detected.

Can you try a test by deleting below line from sdhci1 dts node?
vmmc-supply = <&vdd_mmc1_sd>;
