Running DSP/BIOS on OMAP4 Processors

Hey, I'm sorry if it's not the right place to ask the question but I couldn't find any other related forum.

According to the manuals the OMAP4 processor fully supports Symbian, Windows mobile and Linux operation systems.

I would like to know if I will be able to run DSP/BIOS kernel on that processor too (It's sounds strange to me that TI processor wouldn't support their own OS).

Thank you for your help

  • You picked the right forum.

SYS/BIOS v6 supports the ARM9 processor, which is the main processing core on the OMAP4 device.

You will notice that I said "SYS/BIOS" and not "DSP/BIOS" as your question asked.  The name change to SYS/BIOS happened when the version went from 5.x to 6.x.  Although some TI customers are still using DSP/BIOS 5.x, that older version of the RTOS does not support the ARM9.

  • Hi,

OMAP4 has a dual-CortexA9, a dual-CortexM3 and DSP.  SYS/BIOS only supports the CortexM3’s and the DSP but not the Cortex A9.  The Cortex A9 currently only supports HLOS’s (i.e. Linux).
