Sata Interface problem with EVMC6748

Hi,

I am trying to interface 2.5" FF sata HDD with EVM6748 evaluation board from Logic PD. I am wondering why its behaviour is inconsistent. Sometimes it works and sometimes it stuck .While board is working fine with 3.5" FF sata HDD. Is there any hardware limitation on evaluation board because of that I am not able to interface 2.5" FF HDD?

  • Can you give the revision ID on the baseboard and SOM for your EVM? Older versions had issues with the SATA routing which caused issues with the interface. Also can you give the exact part number for your SATA HDD? Thanks

  • Hi Jeff,

    Following are the required details,

Revision ID of baseboard  : 1013527 REV 6

Revision ID of SOM             : 1014651 REV A

Sata HDD Part Number     : TOSHIBA MK3265GSX

  • The SOM you are using is the older revision before the SATA issues were fixed. There were changes to the layout as well as the coupling capacitor values on the data and clock pins.

Having said that, I assume you are using Linux to try to access the drive. If so, there is a patch here which addressed a problem with some 3Gbps HDDs. Can you apply the patch and see if that improves anything? Thanks

  • Hi Jeff,

I am not using linux to access the drive instead using sata driver provided with PSP package (version pspdrivers_01_30_01). We also developed our custom board and changed the capacitor values as mentioned in PCN document from Logic PD , still getting the same behaviour. I also tried with 2.5 " FF sata hard disk from Western Digital (WD1600BEVT-75ZCT2) but result is same.
