BR Rio

  • Hi Rio,

We will need some more information to be able to assist with debug.

Based on the log file here are a few questions:

    - Is this a new board bring-up? Has the board booted all the way to console prompt? Ideally you want to see Linux operating as a minimal setup before enabling all the peripherals that are on the board.

    - The kernel in use is over 4 years old which means support will be limited. If this is a new board then TI will recommend using the latest kernel.

    - Is there a block diagram for the board?

    Best Regards,

    Schuyler

  • Hi Schuyler

This is the questions I meet.

    - Is this a new board bring-up? Has the board booted all the way to console prompt? Ideally you want to see Linux operating as a minimal setup before enabling all the peripherals that are on the board.

ANS:No, it's not a new board, we have used the SDK for many years. it's normal to boot to console prompt.

    - The kernel in use is over 4 years old which means support will be limited. If this is a new board then TI will recommend using the latest kernel.

ANS: I think it's hard to migrate to new SDK v6.0.0.3

    - Is there a block diagram for the board?

    ANS: it's a 4G LTE modem with EC20 and 4 port switch.

IRQ 22 can be ignored in most situation, but sometime it causes the device to reboot directly.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Tesla and Rio,

I am taking over the support for this issue. Here are a few more questions I have to understand the issue.

Does this "IRQ 22" issue happen since the beginning of this project 4 years ago? If not, it only starts to happen recently?, is there any change in hardware or software which could trigger the issue?

This "IRQ 22" issue happens during linux booting, right? Does it happen every time when linux boots?

  • Hi Bin

    Thanks for your support!

Does this "IRQ 22" issue happen since the beginning of this project 4 years ago? If not, it only starts to happen recently?, is there any change in hardware or software which could trigger the issue?

A:Yes it happened since the beginning of the project, and we have to finish this backtrace to finish our project.

This "IRQ 22" issue happens during linux booting, right? Does it happen every time when linux boots?

A:It doesn't happned during linux booting. it may occur when

    1. Using tcpdump to capture ethernet packet and CTRL+C to kill tcpdump

    2. Console log print may occur

    Thanks !

    Tesla Yu said:

Is this ethernet packet coming from the CPSW port? Does this scenario have anything related to the 4G modem? What AM3352 interface is the 4G modem connected to? Is it possible to run the same test case with the 4G modem powered off?

    Tesla Yu said:

Can you please elaborate about this scenario? Do you mean console log print can trigger the back trace or you just meant the back trace log prints on the console?

  • Hi Bin

Is this ethernet packet coming from the CPSW port? Does this scenario have anything related to the 4G modem? What AM3352 interface is the 4G modem connected to? Is it possible to run the same test case with the 4G modem powered off?

Yes, tcpdump in CPSW almost 100% triggers IRQ 22 backtrace. I am not sure it related to 4G modem, we often reset USB 4G module.

Backtrace 22 occurs with or without 4G module.

Can you please elaborate about this scenario? Do you mean console log print can trigger the back trace or you just meant the back trace log prints on the console?

I mean print can trigger this issue( because the backtrace show console releated, not sure)
    Thansk!
  • Hi Tesla,

Before you trigger the back trace, please provide the output of command 'cat /proc/interrupts'.

Can you reproduce the issue on AM335x EVM? If so, it helps me debug it locally; otherwise, I have to rely on you to remotely debug, which is not efficient.

Can you provide kernel patches to show your kernel changes include dts?

Can you provide the exact command you use tcpdump? Does the command line parameters matter in triggering the back trace?

  • Hi Bin

Here is the interrupts, and I need a few time to setup the env of AM335x EVM.

  • Hi Tesla,

Thanks for the log, it confirms the IRQ 22 is edma ccerr interrupt handler.

Looking forward to your further update.

  • Can you reproduce the issue on AM335x EVM? If so, it helps me debug it locally; otherwise, I have to rely on you to remotely debug, which is not efficient.

I am tring to reproduce, but occurs yet.

Can you provide kernel patches to show your kernel changes include dts?

    Check the file attached, thanks!

Can you provide the exact command you use tcpdump? Does the command line parameters matter in triggering the back trace?

The paramter doesn't matter in triggering the back trace.Just like tcpdump -i eth0 -nn.

    Thanks!

Do you mean you have Linux running on the EVM but haven't seen the issue yet?

    Check the file attached, thanks!

I see the CPSW pinmux in your dts is quite different from am335x-evmsk.dts, I understand you use different CPSW PHY mode from the StarterKit EVM, but I am not a CPSW expert to review your pinmux. Is your CPSW port working properly? Can you please double check your CPSW pinmux settings?

  • Hi Bin

Do you mean you have Linux running on the EVM but haven't seen the issue yet?

    Yes

Can you please double check your CPSW pinmux settings?

    Ok, I will

    Thanks!

    Yes

Sounds like the issue is related to your board, either in hardware or software config. How often do you see the board reboot when the "IRQ 22" back trace happens? If is possible to monitor if the PMIC power supplies are still in the validate range when the board reboots due to the back trace?

I am wondering if your board has design issue in power supplies, which causes both the back trace and board reboot sometimes.

    Ok, I will

    Looking forward to your findings.
