Dear Champs,

Could you please let us know how customer can evaluate H.264/265 decoder performance in TDA4VM?

it seemed there was a limitation in the fps and ch #, and customer could only run it 2ch with 60fps total(30fps each) at 1080p resolution.

I found below comment for more than 2ch usecase, but could not find about fps.

You need to increase value of the macro VIDEO_ENCODER_MAX_HANDLES in the file tiovx/hws/venc/vx_video_encoder_target.c file, in order to increase number of channels from 2.

Could you please let me know how customers can achieve 240fps total at 1080p resolution in TDA4VM?

I found the max decoder performance of TDA4VM is 4 x 1080p 60fps in the datasheet. is this right? how customer can achieve this performance in the TDA4VM EVM with PSDK Linux v7.1?

And also, Could you please provide guide how customer can evaluate it easily? As my customer has not familiar with our SDK yet, it is hard for them to modify max channel number and max fps by themselves. Could you please provide some guide for this?

Hi SI,

1. For TDA4VM with SDK7.1, decoder driver is supported on the RTOS SDK.

2. TDA4VM device is capable of 4K@60fps (or 4x1080p@60fps) decoding for H264.

3. However, RTOS SDK has limitation to support only 2x1080p decoding due to the memory carve out available for decoder driver on RTOS SDK.

4. Please refer to the below user guide on how to increase the memory carve to increase the memory and achieve 4x 1080p decoding:

Dear Sunita Nadampalli,

The maximum number of decodable channels is also an issue
Decoding performance itself is also an issue.

To simplify the problem, let's first look at 1080p 60fps 2ch decoding.

When I test it in sdk decoder conformanctest tool, it comes out below 30fps. (not 60fps)
Is it possible to check whether 2 channels of 1080p 60fps ( total 120fps ) are decoded in real time?

Their target OS is Linux OS.

Hi SI,

TDA4VM Linux SDK 7.1 doesn't support native Video codec drivers. Codec drivers are handled on R5F/RTOS SDK with OpenVX interface from A72/Linux HLOS.

Please share details on

1. Which SDK version customer is using

2. Video use case customer is developing on TDA4VM platform.

Hi Sunita,

It is OK that the codec driver are handled on R5F/RTOS SDK with OpenVX. I meant Linux HLOS should be run on A72.

Then, is it possible to run 2 channel 1080p60fps(120fps total) as sungnam mentioned?

Hi Sl,

You mean a patch with memcpy removal? Its a planned item for SDK7.3, may not be available right now.

However, you would be able to benchmark till the driver interface for 2x1080p@60fps.
