Hi,

we have recently received a TMS320C6A8168 EVM board and have noticed that it comes with a fan+cooler.

We are planning to use this SoC for a battery-powered product, therefore we can't afford adding a fan.

Can't this SoC be used without fan or cooler? Can we use a lower frequency in Linux in order to avoid it?

what is your recommendation processor that comsumes less power compare to TMS320C6A8168 but comes with higher poerformance?

there are only two parts from the link http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/tms320c6a8168.html which are TMS320C6A8168 and TMS320C6A8167.

Have you had a chance to contact a local TI sales rep or authorized distributor? They may help you identify other processors currently available or soon available under TI NDA. I hope this helps.

I tried to contacted my local TI rep (infinity sale), and they have no idea what I am talking about regarding to lower power version of C6A816x. can you help?

The lower power device is the DM814x. It was officially announced today:

There will be similar products for the C6A Integra product family.

there is no mechanical dimemsion of device in the data sheet for DM814x. do you have a chance to know what's it?

Bonzai,

The mechanical drawing was supposed to be added to the datasheet before it was loaded onto the product folder, but it was left out by accident. A new version should be loaded soon. In the mean time, please see below.

Yes, there are plans for devices similar to the DM814x in the C6A Integra product family.
