C6A816x/AM389x Evaluation Module

Hi,

I am referring schematics for C6A816x/AM389x evaluation module. Analog Video Output page no. 37 shows connector J2 (HD15) which I think is VGA connector but it do not use HSYNC & VSYNC. I assume here that this RGB output is with embedded sync? What if the video device requires separate HSYNC & VSYNC signals?

1] Can I create these signals via Digital Video Output 0 port & with use of some video DAC to generate RGB with separate sync?

2] Or one way may be I configure Video Output 0 port to generate RGB data here I will not use any DAC (save $$!) instead will use only HSYNC & VSYNC outputs which I will directly connect to VGA connector. In this case RGB analog outputs will be generated via analog video output from processor IOUTA/B/C.

Thanks & Regards,

Shailendra

  • Shailendra,

These devices do not output discrete syncs with the component on the DACs to support VGA monitors; the HD DACs only support sync on green.  An external sync separator is required to support a DSUB (VGA) connector.  Or you could use VOUT[0] and an external DAC that provides the external syncs.
