What is VIC?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PLL1705

Hi All,

I would like to ask a question on the sheet 11 - VIC page of EVM6437 schematics.

What is VIC used for? There are chiefly two components on the page:

1.      PLL1705 - 3.3 V Dual PLL MultiClock Generator

2.      PI6CX100-27 - 27 MHz 3.3V VCXO for Set-Top Box Applications

They seem to be related to PLL and clock. But for whom does their output serve?

One of the page’s output VID_CLK is connected back, although with a NO-POP resistor, to VPBECLK of DSP. When does VPBE need such clock input?

Thanks,

Zheng

This circuitry could be used to implement an audio video synchronization scheme, however on the EVM out of the box it is not, as you note by the no pop resistor. I have not actually seen this used myself, but there is a short discussion on it in section 2.4.1 of the EVM tech reference.

  • Thanks for referring me to section 2.4.1, I see its purpose.
