TDA4VM: Is there a FTDI driver for windows?

Part Number: TDA4VM

Hi,

Sometime a linux host is not available temporarily, or maybe just want to login EVM to check logs on a windows PC.

Seems there is no windows driver for downloading on https://www.ti.com/product/TDA4VM

Win10 20H2 failed to update "USB <-> Serial Converter" automatically.

  • Hi Keelung Yang,

If what you want is to look at the Linux logs then all you need to do is connect to the MAIN UART (J44) on the EVM. This will show 4 UART instances. The 1st one of those 4 instance is where the Linux logs appear. There is no special driver which needs to be downloaded for the EVM.

If you have an ETHERNET connection then you can also SSH to the EVM.

  • Hi Karan,

I know how to check logs in Linux. But what about Windows? Only two things need: driver & terminial software, like putty, I think.

SSH need an additional hub or router. And I just want to confirm which FTDI driver I should used on windows, since FTDI chips is used for USB-to-Serial on TDA4VM. Should I download it from FTDI or use a Ti special driver?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Keelung Yang,

There is not special driver from TI. Can you check the Ports under Device Manger in Windows? Do you not see COMXX?

    Regards,

    Karan

  • Hi Karan,

I've post a snapshot when I created this thread.

I guess I can install driver from https://www.ftdichip.com/FTDrivers.htm since it's no special driver from Ti.

I cheched PROC079E3B(001)_SCH.pdf, they are FT2232 and FT4232 chips, but no special driver from FTDI too.

But after updating driver of CDM v2.12.28 WHQL Certified downloaded from FTDI, and re-plugining USB, there are still broken icons listed in Other Devices in Device Manager, no new port shown in Ports.

  • Hi Keelung Yang,

I see in the screenshot you had shared in the post that even your other devices like PCIe and SM bus controller show broken icons. I believe that this is some other problem with the host machine.

Also your USB <-> serial converter instead of USB Serial Port.

    Karan
