AM3352: USB flash drive doesn't get detected

Part Number: AM3352

Hi,

We have this one board which doesn't detect any USB device (flash drive or micro USB cable). We are using kernel version 4.9.31 (Arago Krogoth).

Below are the logs when a USB flash device is connected to the board using an OTG cable. Any idea what could be wrong?

[ 386.489585] usb 1-1: new full-speed USB device number 2 using musb-hdrc
[ 386.629721] usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71

Regards,

Fariya

  • Hi Fariya,

Does the USB port can detect any other USB device?

Do you use the USB0 or USB1 port?

Please run the following script on your board after the failure and provide the output.

    #!/bin/bash

Please probe if the USB0_ID pin is grounded (<100ohm) properly when a USB device is attached.

  • And ensure USB VBUS is close to 5V.

  • Hi Bin,

USB0_ID is properly grounded at ~1ohm and VBUS is at 5V.

    Regards,

  • Hi Fariya,

Just for testing, can you please modify the dts to add dr_mode = "host" in the USB0 node, to see if the USB port can enumerate devices?

This setting configure the USB port to host-only mode.

  • Hi Bin Liu,

Setting dr_mode to host doesn't help, none of the USB devices get detected even after this.

    Regards,

    Fariya

And you still see the "-71" error message as in your first post above?

What other USB devices have you tested with? Are they all high-speed device? The log in your first post showing detected full-speed. Can you please check your board layout to ensure USB DP and DM lines are not swapped between AM335x and the USB receptacle?

  • Hi Bin Liu,

We have majorly tried connecting a USB cable and a Samsung 32 gb, USB 3.0 with micro usb port onto our board. Both the USB cable and the USB flash drive didn't get detected. There are 1 -2 boards on which the devices are not getting detected and this is not the issue with all boards and so we want to understand what could be wrong on these 1 -2 boards.

    Regards,

    Fariya

  • Hi Fariya,

The working and non-working boards are all from the same manufacturing batch? This sounds like an assembly issue.
