AM5708: PTP/PPS generation support in AM

Part Number: AM5708

Hi,

We are using AM5708 in our design. We are interested in PTP protocol and hardware Pulse Per second (PPS) generation.

We follow the instructions from below sdk documentation link and able to see the linux time getting updated by phc2sys application.

"processor-sdk-linux/esd/docs/05_02_00_10/linux/Industrial_Protocols_PTP.html#generating-1-pps"

But we are not able to generate the PPS signal.

Questions

1. Does AM5708 support the PPS generation ? The hardware modification guides are avilable for 571x and 572x. IDKs

2. If it does support can you please share the IDK Modification List for 5708, or can I follow 571x list.

3. Can you please comment on the timer15 or timer16's role in PPS generation. are they important part of PPS generation ?

Can you please help us out. Thank you in advance.

Best Regards

Ganesh

  • Hi,

    1. AM570x and AM571x has equivalent PTP/PPS support. TI doesn't have IDK with AM570x device but the development can be done on AM571x IDK.

    2. Please note that the IDK modification is mainly to reuse some pins for PPS function. It may not be applicable to custom board design.

    3. Timer 15 / 16 are both used to generate the timing for PPS function. Please refer to am571x-idk-pps.dtso for details. You should apply the same changes to your dts file if you will also use timer 15/16 for pps fucntion.

  • Hi Stanley,

Thank you. This helped us to understand the circuit changes.
