AM4376: maximum and nominal power consumption

Part Number: AM4376

Hello Team,

My customer is at the design stage of a product that is TI AM4376 based. They are trying to calculate power consumption but confused, when they look at the table in the AM4376 datasheet, the worst-case power consumption is different with download TI AM43XX power estimation tool spreadsheet. So which one will they trust? They just what to know the maximum and nominal power consumption of AM4376.

Regards,

Renan

  • Hey Renan,

They are both trustworthy depending on what you are trying to do. If you are trying to do power supply sizing, use the data sheet Table "Maximum Current Ratings at Power Terminals". If you are trying to understand max/nominal power consumption during the customer use case of the chip, the PET and/or power consumption summary should be used.

Power Supply Sizing and Data Sheet: The data primarily benefits the power supply designer trying to understand the worst-case power expected from each power rail. In other words, this is the worst case (with margin) each individual supply could see and won't happen concurrently. This is why the data sheet max power will be larger than PET.

Let me know if that helps,

    Sean
